Anna Mae Schurko, of Hamburg, poses in her home Thursday, November 5, with some photographic memorabilia from her time in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during World War 2. The Corp was a program from 1943 to 1945 run by the U.S. Public Health Services to train nurses to fill the void at local hospitals that was left when fully trained nurses and doctors were deployed overseas. Unfortunately, those who took part in the program are not recognized as Veterans and therefor do not receive the same benefits of those who were deployed. A Bill known as the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps Equity Act is currently being examined and if passed will provide those benefits to the cadets; the youngest of whom are now n their 80's.
